Community Campaign to bring a swimming pool to West Wicklow
Canoeing Ireland have made a submission to the Wicklow County Development Plan in support of the development of a swimming pool in West Wicklow.
In their submission they write; “A strong sense of community is an essential building block for the growth and development of our sport. Access to facilities such as the proposed swimming pool is advocated strongly by Canoeing Ireland.”
The development of a swimming pool in West Wicklow would mean that local kayaking & canoeing clubs like the Poulaphouca Paddlers & Balto kayak club would no longer have to travel long distances to access suitable facilities to train during the winter months.
Canoeing Ireland further state that; “Every community deserves the opportunity to participate in watersports. As an NGB we understand the challenges this presents without supporting infrastructure. This proposal offers an opportunity for sustainable and welcome development within the county and is fully supported by Canoeing Ireland.”
Canoeing Ireland are the second National Governing Body to make a submission in recognition of the urgent need for a swimming pool in West Wicklow, following Swim Ireland’s strong submission early last week.
There is still time for YOU to make a submission to the Wicklow County Development Plan. There are 3 ways that you can make a submission;
Write/Draw why a Pool for West Wicklow is important to you & post it to Wicklow County Development Plan, County Development Plan Review, Planning Department, Wicklow County Council, Station Road, Wicklow Town
Create an account at the Wicklow County Council Consultation Portal at consult.wicklow.ie & submit your letter of support there. For a step by step guide on how to do this watch our online workshop here
Email us your letter and/or drawing of support for a Pool for West Wicklow by Friday August 27th and we will include it as part of our submission. Our email address is poolforwestwicklow@gmail.com
Make sure to include your name and address in your submission. Tell Wicklow County Council why having a Pool in West Wicklow is important for you, your family, your Sports Club, your Community Group, your Business, or your School.
You have to be over 16 to make a submission but children can write letters or draw pictures about why having a swimming pool in West Wicklow is important to them and these letters and drawings can be included in a family or group submission. Your children can send us their letters and pictures and we will include them in our submission!
